John Tipton had an itinerant childhood in Indiana, Florida, Oklahoma,
Louisiana, and Illinois. After a three-year stint in the U.S. Army, he
attended the University of Chicago on the GI Bill where he earned an AB in
philosophy. He lives in Chicago and is the curator & founder of the Chicago
Poetry Project. He is the author of surfaces (Flood Editions, 2004); his
translation of Sophocles’ Ajax will be published by Flood in the near future.
